3-D printing class for teens coming to Library

On March 12, a special one-time class for teens will give participants a chance to program a simple object for 3-D printing. The program, conducted by members of the Vick Knight Library staff, allows the participant to learn about 3D printing and the process of making a 3D print from design to the final result.

The participants’ designs will be printed, but not during the workshop. The computer design files will be taken to the 3D printer at the Vick Knight Library in Lake Elsinore and returned a few days later.

The program is restricted to ages 13 to 19 by the terms of the grant which made the printer and program possible. Registration will begin the day of the event, March 12, at 10 a.m. by people who are physically in attendance. The number of participants will be restricted by the number of computers available for programing use.

The RCLStudio 3-D Printing Pilot Project 2015-2016 is a program of the Riverside County Library System (RCLS), supported by the U.S. Institute of Museums and Library Services under the provisions of the Library Services and Technology Act, administered in California by the State Librarian.

A new program for teens, the Youth Leadership Program, has begun at the Canyon Lake Library. The eight-week program provides opportunities for young people to hold office, run meetings and develop their speaking skills. New participants may still join the monthly program at the March 14 meeting. The program meets at 4 p.m. the second Tuesday of the month.

Last Friday, February 26, a room full of preschoolers gathered in the City Multi-purpose Room to celebrate Dr. Seuss’ Birthday with Miss Ginny Furnish and pianist Bill Evans. More than 30 children and adults listened to a story about zoo animals, inspired by the famous author, while Claudia Burt translated the stories into Spanish for some of the listeners. After singing and dancing, children made animal faces from paper plates.

The next Preschool Craft and Story Time will be on March 12, with the theme of “Bees, Butterflies and Bugs.”

The Canyon Lake Library is located inside the City Hall building. It’s open Mondays, 10 to 7, Wednesdays and Fridays, 10 to 6, and Saturdays 10 to 3. It’s closed Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday. The Canyon Lake Library is a member of the Riverside County Library System (www.rivlib.net) honoring cards and returns from other affiliated libraries. It has a Facebook page. For more information, call 951-244-9181.
