Family Matters Club is up and running in 2016

The Family Matters Club is off to a busy start this year. Canyon Lakers are invited to the next monthly meeting on Monday, February 1, at 6 p.m. in the East Port Activity Building. There will be crafts and snacks for the whole family.

The group’s most recent field trip was a visit to a CalFire station in Perris. On January 22, Canyon Laker and heavy fire equipment operator John White and Captain Rich Tovar showed almost 20 kids around the station.

Spokesperson Jenny Teperson says the children were thrilled to see where and how the firefighters spend their time when they aren’t fighting fires. They were able to take a look at where they cook, work out, hang out and sleep. After that, they checked out the garage where they had the chance to explore the fire truck inside and out, plus try on all the gear. The kids were sent home with some fire station goodies and an adventure they won’t soon forget.

Jenny says, “The Family Matters Club would like to thank the Perris Station and staff for the exciting morning.” She reminds residents to keep an eye on the club’s Facebook page for future field trips and other family events.

One of those events may seem many months away, but it’s not too soon to plan ahead: a swap meet!

Family Matters Swapmeet

The 2nd annual Family Matters Swapmeet will be held May 7, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., at Holiday Harbor. Organizers have announced that parking spaces on the blacktop will be available for $15, saying, “Sell whatever you can manage to fit into your space. What a great way to sell off some items, make some extra cash and have us do all the advertising and signs for you.”

Vendors can reserve a booth space on the lawn for $35. The Family Matters Club will be selling hot dogs, chips, snack food and beverages to keep everyone powered up for their shopping/selling.
