As 2015 came to a chilly close this week, Canyon Lakers were sweeping up from a windstorm on Sunday and remembering the snowfall that blanketed neighboring hills and communities last year at this time. This week and next, The Friday Flyer will look back at highlights from 2015 and share some of the New Year Resolutions community members have made for 2016.

As for the season just past, there were many well-attended community events and even more private family gatherings to talk about on social media and record in family scrapbooks.

The holidays were not without some negatives, however. Some homeowners reported Christmas decorations stolen from their yards and two club Christmas trees stolen from the Main Gate median (many others were blown over in Sunday’s windstorm). Others reported a stolen car, stolen bicycles, a vehicle being sideswiped and a residential burglary.

A major injury crash occurred on Vacation Dr. at Sierra Park on December 24, with one person transported to the hospital.

An early morning vehicle fire charred a truck in a driveway on Redwood Dr. on December 14. A chimney fire on Emperor Dr. was contained quickly early Monday morning, December 28, with the fire chief and engines responding from at least five CalFire stations.

There were reports of several lost-and-found dogs – hopefully all found their homes.

Considering the weather-related devastation taking place in the South and Midwest, and even worse horrors like the San Bernardino shooting, most Canyon Lakers are still counting their blessings to live in their “little bit of paradise.” Happy New Year, Canyon Lake!
