Audie Murphy Ranch Spirit Park is now open

Canyon Lakers who drive Newport Rd. have been keeping an eye on the growth of the Audie Murphy Ranch development, including the new Spirit Park at the corner of Newport and Berea Roads. Last Saturday, the chain link fences surrounding the new park came down as the City of Menifee held a grand opening ceremony.

Years ago, some residents may have been disappointed to see the giant boulders in that area bulldozed and removed. But developers came through with a lovely new 8.78 acre park park that incorporates some of the big boulders in the landscape design, along with restrooms, shade structure, lighted tennis courts, lighted basketball courts, tot lot, playground, picnic shelters, open grass fields and walking trails.

Spirit Park is one of several improvements required of Brookfield Residential, the primary developer of Audie Murphy Ranch. City officials announced that the park was named Spirit Park “to dually recognize the military legacy of Audie Murphy and local veterans, and to pay homage to the Native American heritage and history of the region.” It is located near the Silvercreek community, being developed by KB Home.

The park is open to the public. For information about reserving the picnic areas for private use, call 951-723-3880.
