Imagine the fun of being in the Parade of Lights

The annual Parade of Lights (boat parade) is more than just a spectacle for holiday parties. Many residents would say they decorate a boat for this parade year after year because there is nothing quite like cruising the waterways of Canyon Lake and seeing Christmas lights reflected in the water and hearing the cheers of thousands of people from decks and waterfront parks.

For others, decorating a boat to be in the parade is a small way to give back to the community they love. Every single lighted, decorated boat makes the parade that much better!

This year’s Parade of Lights will be held Saturday, December 12. It’s scheduled to leave East Port at 5:15 p.m. and cruise the East Bay and Main Lake, ending up at Holiday Harbor for the awards.

For those who need motivation to go the extra mile with their decorations, here are the cash prizes:

Sweepstakes: (Parade Best Overall) $125 cash, plus plaque and perpetual trophy on display at the POA Office

Commodore’s Award: (Highest Score) $100 cash, plus plaque

Best Pontoon: $100 for 1st place, $50 for 2nd and $25 for 3rd

Best Ski: $100 for 1st place, $50 for 2nd and $25 for 3rd

Club/Civic: $100 for 1st place, $50 for 2nd and $25 for 3rd

Dash plate awards that can be mounted directly on one’s boat will be given to each parade entrant.

Please mail in this registration form or download a form from the Yacht Club website at clyc2014.webs.com. The club needs a general idea how many boats will be in the parade this year.

Last minute entrants can sign up at the East Port launch ramp at 4:30 p.m. on the day of the parade. Those who are really late can join the parade by 5:15 or along the route and have some fun! Boats that do not go through the registration process will not be eligible for the judging process and prizes, but are welcome to participate. Club and group floats are encouraged and welcomed.

Yacht Club Commodore Bob Templeton says, “The Yacht Club and the community are really looking forward to seeing your boat in this year’s parade! Get your boat ready and join in the fun!”
