Who says Halloween is just for people! At the October 11 Farmers Market, Canyon Lake pets (dogs) were dressed up in their Halloween finest for the categories: cutest, spookiest, funniest, most original and pet/owner look-alike costumes.
After a short parade around the Farmers Market, members from the new Royal Court had the difficult task of judging each canine and (for look-alike) human in the five categories, and event organizer Cyndi Hermanns passed out prizes. Afterwards, there was a drawing for “doggie” prizes. Although the day was fairly hot, everyone (pets and people alike) appeared to be having a wonderful time.
Each year the participation grows, and the costumes seem to get more elaborate. It’s not clear who has more fun – the dogs, as they bounced around playing and getting lots of attention, or the people, as they showed off and visited with other doggie parents!
The Farmers Market operates every Sunday, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., in the upper section of the Towne Center parking lot. It features fresh produce from local farmers and fresh flowers from area growers as well as handcrafted items, vendor merchandise and freshly prepared food. It’s a good place to pick up fresh food for holiday meals and gifts from local vendors.
