Former music and drama director and award-winning pianist Lorilee Bajema will be offering two new music classes on Fridays in Canyon Lake. The first six-week session will run from October 9 to November 20.

Lorilee says one of the class times is designed for the after-school crowd; the other is a little earlier for homeschooled children or anyone who can make it. Both classes will be held in the Pool View Room at the Lodge on Fridays.

  • From 3:15 to 4:30 p.m., Homegrown Musical Theater, “Elfis & the Frozen Princess,” is for ages 9 to 16 (or at directors discretion).

Lorilee says, “Elfis is back in a wonderful new musical destined to be a favorite of singers and audiences alike. The wintry setting will be popular with children.”

There are speaking and non-speaking parts aside from the main characters: princesses, princes, reindeer, snowmen, townsfolk. The class will teach five original songs and a lighthearted script with short, easy-to-follow lines for the characters.

  • From 2 to 3 p.m., Music for Fun, “Zip-a-Dee Kazoo-Dah Day,” is for ages 6 to 12 (or at director’s discretion). Class will teach Disney songs and other favorites, plus kids will make their own kazoo. This is a six-week course all about having fun with music.

Sign up at the POA office or Activities office at the pool; or contact Lorilee directly at 239-273-1773. Those who miss the first signup on October 9 can sign up Monday, October 11, at 3 p.m. in the Lodge Lounge.

Residents are invited to hear Lorilee perform at the Murrieta Library on Tuesday, October 20, at 10 a.m.
