Check out October calendar at the Library

Children and their parents continue to enjoy activities at the Library, while others take advantage of the many resources the Library has to offer.

Canyon Lake Librarian Sandra Brautigam says homework has been made easier with a new online program from the Riverside County Library System. The new program is Scholastic GO and incorporates information from Grolier Online. The reliable database information is available from home as an alternative to open internet webpages with questionable accuracy.

Scholastic Go is paid for by the Riverside County Library System (RCLS) so their card holders can use it for free. Simply go to www.rivlib.net, click on the icon and enter a current RCLS card number to explore the information. Tabs organize the information into elementary, middle, high school, parents and teacher/librarian groups. A first library card is free and can be acquired at any RCLS library, including the library branch in Canyon Lake.

A story time for toddlers is held at the Library every Monday at 11 a.m. It focuses on colors, numbers and other beginning concepts so important in pre-literacy development. The library also hosts a program for Spanish language development for children in grades K-5, providing fun activities to learn and use everyday Spanish words.

Preschoolers enjoy Miss Ginny’s Craft and Story Time every other Friday at 11:30 a.m. The next one will be October 9, when the theme will be “Under the Sea in an Octopus’ World.”  The Wednesday Knitting class is hoping to expand into crochet. The library is seeking a volunteer who is knowledgeable in crochet and will enjoy helping others learn in the friendly social/educational atmosphere of the program. The knitting program meets every Wednesday at 11 a.m. for one hour. Every skill level.

All branches of the Riverside County Library system will be closed Monday, October 12, for Columbus Day. The book drops will be available for returns and the website www.rivlib.net will be available for renewals, requesting and downloading materials, and use of the databases.

The Canyon Lake Library is located inside the City Hall building. It’s open Mondays, 10 to 7, Wednesdays and Fridays, 10 to 6, and Saturdays 10 to 3. It’s closed Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday. The Canyon Lake Library is a member of the Riverside County Library System honoring cards and returns from other affiliated libraries.
