Born in the USA

All around the country, Americans celebrate the 1776 Independence of the United States from England. John Adams wrote to his wife on July 3, 1776, that every July 4th should be commemorated, “with Pomp and Parade, with Shews, Games, Sports, Guns, Bells, Bonfires and Illuminations from one End of this Continent to the other from this Time forward forever more.” The first Independence Day fireworks were set off on July 4, 1777. Photographer Mike Clary captured this and many photos of the fireworks show, some of which can be seen on Page B-2. Additional photos can be viewed at www.fridayflyer.com or mikeclaryphotography.com. (The only photo not by Mike Clary is the heart-shaped display provided by Michelle Evans.)
