‘Flower Power’ audition workshop is next Tuesday

An audition workshop is planned on May 26, for Canyon Lake Community Theatre’s all-kids summer production of “Flower Power.” Director Ilene Moore says she highly recommends that aspiring actors participate in the audition workshop on Tuesday, May 26, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in the Pool View Room at the Lodge.

She will give additional audition information and teach a short audition song. Show CDs will be available for $3. A CLCT membership fee of $15 is required for one adult and one child under the age of 18. Additional children are $10.

Those who don’t attend the audition workshop should prepare a one-minute, upbeat karaoke-style song with CD accompaniment (no vocals and no rap) to audition. Musical theater or ‘60s music is preferred.

Auditions will be on Monday, June 8, in the Pool View Room at the Lodge. Kids K through 2nd grade are invited to audition first, from 5:15 to 6:30 p.m. All other grades will audition from 6:30 to 9. Show dates are July 31, and August 1 and 2. Bring a photograph.

Ilene says she is looking for “a cast of thousands” to perform this innovative theater piece with its many singing, dancing and speaking roles. All grade levels from Kindergarten through 8th grade are welcome. “Bring your beads, bell bottoms and your groovy, wacky ways back the hip music of the Sixties with the flower people, mystics and protesters of the decade that changed everything!”

Here is a brief synopsis of the musical: Starpetal, Moonbeam and Sunflower – the all-girl band, Flower Power – are in a school battle of the bands. They really want to go up against the boys’ band – Peter, Paul and Harry – and they finally make it happen at Ol’ MacDonald’s Farm.

Hippie Shreddy Freddy, the mystic Maharishi, Bruiser and his bikers, and Max King, the famous record promoter, all get drawn into the excitement that becomes the Cornstalk Music Festival.

Everything goes wild when the crazy bikers invade the event; but Big Mama knows how to tame them and calm the crowd. For more information, contact Ilene Moore 909-239-1177.
