Art Gala shows off works of Expressionism

The Canyon Lake Art Association’s Spring Gala, held last Saturday, April 25, in honor of the Art Association’s sponsors, seemed to satisfy both the palette and the palate, according to spokesperson Kristene Robertson.

Some of the art on display was in the style of Abstract Expressionism, which technically refers to a post–World War II art movement in American painting, developed in New York in the 1940s. Expressionism is an artistic style in which the artist attempts to depict not objective reality but rather the subjective emotions and responses that objects and events arouse in the artist.

Held at the Senior Center, the event was well attended by art admirers of all ages. Wine was donated by De Rebelde Winery of Lake Elsinore and hors d’oeuvres were donated by CLAA members. Guitar and piano music were provided by Elise Vigil and friend. Guests were served by Rebecca Esquibel, owner of La Rebelde Winery. Rebecca is 2nd Vice-President of the Art Association.

Artists attending the Gala included Kathy Barbay, Janie Currie, Franco Pepe, Carol Davis, Joan Fakhoury, Christy Bruce, Lori Gundrun, Kristene Robertson, Marilyn Latimer, Ines Miller, Rhonda Strickland and Barbara Perryman.

Leann Kluck was on hand to take pictures.
