Young women represent community well

It’s not too late to try out for the Royal Court! The last day to sign up for the Miss Canyon Lake Scholarship Pageant is April 29. The next signup date is Wednesday, April 22, at 6:30 p.m. in the Pool View Room at the Lodge. The pageant will be held on May 16, at 7 p.m. in the Holiday Bay Room at the Lodge.

The Miss Canyon Lake Scholarship Pageant is a tradition that has been ongoing for many years in Canyon Lake. This program emphasizes the ability of the Royal Court and Talent Court to participate in community service, volunteer service and education. All Miss Canyon Lake contestants are required to have interviews, know facts about their community, and have a platform outlining a community service or volunteer program that they will actively promote within Canyon Lake.

According to Director CoCo Morrison, all four of the older Royal Court members have had great experiences this year being involved in and out of the community. “They are wonderful mentors to the younger girls on the Court and they have reached out to those around them,” she says.

Mrs. Canyon Lake Donna Ritchie has been very active by advertising and arranging events for the Court to perform community service. Ms. Canyon Lake Jennifer Ward and Miss Teen Canyon Lake Karina Bowen have gone on to represent Canyon Lake as well as compete and win many titles in other local pageants and in modeling.

Coco adds, “Miss Canyon Lake Sierra Macias has been a fantastic role model, working with the younger girls and spending a lot of time with them performing various community service projects.”

It should be noted that this year’s pageant will not have categories older than the Miss Canyon Lake level. There will be no Ms. or Mrs. The age groups will be 5 to 25. Anyone competing for Miss Canyon Lake must be a senior in high school or currently attending college.

There is also a talent competition portion of the program; however, this is not a requirement to be in the pageant. Participating in the talent competition is optional.
