Twirlers seek shoes for ‘Shoes for Shelters’

The Canyon Lake Twirlers Square Dance Club is helping a local dog rescue raise funds by collecting shoes. Greendog Foundation is a local dog rescue that is collecting any kind of gently used shoes to donate to “Shoes for Shelters” to raise money for the rescue. It is not necessary to polish, clean or fix them up.

All kinds of footwear are acceptable – flip flops, heels, ski boots, flat shoes, slippers, dance shoes, sneakers, kids shoes or adult shoes – they just need to be in relatively decent condition (i.e. not chewed up by the dog or worn completely through) and in pairs.

The shoes will be cleaned/repaired as needed, then donated to people who need them. If they collect enough shoes, Greendog Foundation will earn a $1,000 grant to help support their local rescue efforts.

The shoes are needed by April 30 and can be brought to the Lodge during the Twirlers class on Wednesday nights, from 7 to 9 p.m. Member Rosalie Nusser also has offered to collect the shoes at her house. Call her at 951-244-0672 or 364-8564 to arrange a drop-off.

The Twirlers Square Dance Club meets on Wednesday evenings in the Holiday Bay Room at the Lodge. There is a workshop for experienced dancers from 6:15 to 7 p.m. This is followed by the Twirlers Class from 7 to 9 p.m. with instructor Vic Kaarie. Former dancers are always welcome. Dress is casual. For more information, call Joe or Vi Henderson at 951-244-0345.
