Off Road Night Races coming to Lake Elsinore

The Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series is coming to Lake Elsinore with the Southern California Shootout taking place March 20 and 21 at the Lake Elsinore Motorsports Park, 20700 Cereal St. in Lake Elsinore (RaceLE.com).

The gates to these night races will open at 4 p.m., with opening ceremonies at 7:30. Free tickets for children under 12 can be found in an ad in this week’s issue of The Friday Flyer (back page of B-section). For ticket and event information, visit lucasoiloffroad.com.

Canyon Lake resident Jordan Cochrum is a former racer in this series. He now works for Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series sponsor, Rockstar Energy, as marketing activation director and motor sports director for North America.

In addition, many Canyon Lake residents remember former residents and local motorcycle racers Jeremy McGrath and Brian Deegan, who will be racing in this series.

Jeremy is a seven-time AMA Supercross champion who formed his own Jeremy McGrath Motorsports truck racing team last year. In addition to his many accomplishments in motor sports, Jeremy is the first Supercross racer to have his own toy line. His affiliation with Mattel included the radio-controlled X-treme Cycle with action figures and a line of Hot Wheels.

Jeremy also had his own line of signature shoes, the Nac-Nac from No Fear. In addition, he has his own production company, Clutch Films, which has produced motocross industry films.

As founder and owner of the Metal Mulisha, Brian Deegan has competed in Motocross, Freestyle Motocross, Rally Car and Short Course Trucks. He was the most decorated Freestyle Motocross rider in the competition’s history with 13 X-Games medals. He later turned to off-road truck racing and was named Lucas Oil Driver of the Year in 2010 and 2011. In addition to racing, Brian is a family man with a wife and three children, living in Omaha, Nebraska.
