‘Tour de Canyon Lake’ will be held March 21

Bicycling enthusiasts and runners are invited to mark their calendars for the 5th annual Tour de Canyon Lake on Saturday, March 21.

Each year, the Fitness and Triathlon Club holds an organized bike ride through Canyon Lake. In exchange for a donation of pet food, pet supplies or a financial contribution, the first 50 participants to show up receive an event T-shirt. Proceeds of the event are given to Animal Friends of the Valleys, which requests that food donations be IAMS or Pedigree. (A limited supply of T-shirts are available for $10 each.)

This year the club is adding a 5K run prior to the bike ride. The 5K run will begin at 8 a.m.; the bike ride will begin at 9. Both events are free of charge and start at the Lodge parking lot.

Organizers say the full route for the bike ride is about 15 miles and takes about an hour to complete. The approximate route will be inside the gates as follows: Lodge to the Main Gate to the end of Continental; Continental to the East Gate; East Gate to the Campground; Campground to the Lodge. Those who have young children or who don’t want to ride that far are welcome to take a shorter route. This is not a race; it is an informal ride for all who can ride that distance at any pace. All traffic laws must be obeyed, and helmets are highly recommended for all, but required for all cyclists under 18 years of age.

There are no registration forms to fill out. Just show up. Learn more about the Fitness and Triathlon Club at www.canyonlaketriathlonclub.com.
