Ski Club has great showing at Western Regionals

The Broadside Harbor Water Ski Club in Caldwell, Idaho welcomed 400 water skiers plus family, friends and spectators from the 13 western United States to participate in the 2016 West Regional Championships.

During the week of July 20, 18 skiers from the Canyon Lake Ski Club attended the competition that featured slalom skiing, distance jumping and trick skiing. One of the non-skiing club members, Kim Larson, was selected to be the Chief Scorer for the 2016 event. Spokesperson Scott Larson says, “Our Canyon Lake skiers put together quite a showing, taking home 17 individual awards.”

Several highlights from the week included Canyon Lakers Carol Brooks, Linda Hockenberry and Debra Sacks all making it onto the podium for the Women’s 5 Slalom competition taking 1st, 2nd and 5th places respectively. Steven Brooks took home the gold in both the Mens 1 Slalom and Open Men trick. Jay Fitzpatrick took the Silver in Trick and Scott Larson took home the Silver in Masters Men Slalom division.

In the prestigious Overall Champion awards, given in each age group for exceptional performances across all three events (Slalom, Trick and Jump), Carol Brooks took 1st place, Kendra Nathan took 3rd place, Kevin Hyatt took 4th place and Erik Larson 5th place within their respective divisions.

Other club members who had qualified and skied in the Western Regional Championships included Sabrina Bargar, who took 17th in Girls 3 Slalom; Krista Rudberg, 17th in Women’s 1 Trick; Mike Kerber took 18th and Steve Volz 21st in Mens 3 Slalom; Rick Jacob placed 26th in Mens 4; and Club President Tom Nathan took 29th and Treasurer Jim Brooks 32nd in Men’s 5 Slalom; while assistant chief scorer, Joe Perez, took 7th in Overall.
