Public safety officials report monthly statistics

The February 2 meeting of the Public Safety Committee was held at 9:30 a.m. in the City Council Chambers. The following departments provided monthly statistics for the month of January, 2016.

Animal Control

Officer Sheila Risinger, from Animal Friends of the Valleys, reported that AFV issued 19 citations; 123 licenses were sold; six dogs were turned in by owners; 14 stray dogs were impounded; 39 cats were turned in by owners; and eight stray cats were impounded.

Officer Risinger noted that 27 of the cats turned in by one owner were from a hoarder who received counseling. According to Resigner, she was feeding strays in her garage and it “just got out of hand.” All cats were healthy.

Emergency Preparedness

Director Nancy Carroll says the CLEPC plans to hold an “everyone plays” (community-wide) drill in the spring, hopefully May. Nancy reported that the training class for Operations employees had about 25 in attendance. “We trained in CPR, AED, first aid and general, which included care for cuts, hypo/hyperthermia and other minor emergencies.

Fire Services

Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire’s incident report for Canyon Lake for the month of January indicated responses to 51 calls for medical assistance, one false alarm, five public service assistances, one residential fire (a kitchen outlet that was quickly contained), two traffic collisions and one hazardous material call. This totaled 61 calls for the month of January, with an average response time of 4.5 minutes.

Station 94 responded to 41 medical, two public service assistances and two traffic collisions. Station 97 responded to three medical assistances. Station 5 responded to seven medical assistances, three public service assistances and one residential fire.

Canyon Lake Police

The Police Report submitted by Lt. Earl Quinata informed the Public Safety Committee that the Canyon Lake Police Department handled 261 calls during the month of January.

Rapes

Assaults

January 26 – Domestic Violence – 22000 block of S. Canyon Lake Dr. CN-160260001

Burglaries

January 22 – Residential Burglary – 32000 block of Railroad Canyon Rd. Alarm activation. Subject made entry and tampered with a cash register. Visual of subject leaving the building. CN-160220005)

Grand Thefts/Petty Thefts

January 8 – Petty Theft – Vacation Dr. and Old Wrangler Rd. Water ski rack taken. CN-160120011

January 25 – Petty Theft – Canyon Lake Dr. and Sparkle Dr. CN-160250003

January 28 – Petty Theft – 22000 block of Canyon Club Dr. Theft occurred from vehicle. CN-160280003

Vehicle Theft

January 28 – Vehicle Theft – Railroad Canyon Rd. and S. Canyon Lake Dr. Reporting Party’s 2001 Ford Ranger was taken. CN-160280007

Theft From Vehicle

January 27 – Vehicle Burglary – 29000 block of Longhorn Dr. CN-160270001

January 29 – Vehicle Burglary – 23000 block of Outrigger Dr. Vehicle stereo taken. CN-160290002

Vandalism and Public Intoxication in Canyon Lake during the month of January.

January 9 – Vandalism – North Canyon Lake Dr. and Vacation Dr. Vehicle tires slashed and the handle was broken. CN-160090001

January 16 – Public Intoxication – Henry Avila, 37, was arrested. CN-160140004

Traffic Enforcement

There were seven traffic citations issued. There were no DUI arrests. There were four non-criminal traffic collisions.

Special Enforcement

Officer Ivan Henery provided the report for the month of January stating that there has been some evidence of shotgun shooting along the North Ski Area (empty shell casings found); however no gunshots have been reported. According to Ivan, “Its pretty quiet out there.”

The next meeting of the Public Safety Committee will be Tuesday, March 1, at 9:30 a.m. in the City Council Chamber.
