Women’s Golf Club

“Amore” is the theme this year of the Canyon Lake Women’s Valentine Golf Tournament. The format is a foursome scramble, teeing off at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, February 10. Awards will follow the Italian buffet luncheon in the Country Club.

The tournament is open to all Women’s Golf Club members at a cost of $35. Lunch only is available for $15. Sign up at the Golf Pro Shop. For more information, call Linda Kamashian at 951-244-3675 or Linda Johnson at 951-285-5050.

The Women’s Golf Club meets regularly on Tuesdays to play 18 holes of golf. CLWGC is a member of the Women’s Southern California Golf Association, responsible for handicapping services for members. Men’s Golf Club Sweetheart Tournament

The Men’s Golf Club will hold its annual Sweetheart Tournament on February 15, open to all residents of Canyon Lake and their partners. Single golfers also are invited to participate, with pairing help from the tournament committee.

This tournament is open to members of the Men’s Golf Club, Women’s Golf Club, Family Golf Club and 9ers Golf Club, as well as golfers who don’t belong to a club. It’s possible there will be a “Callaway Flight” for golfers without a handicap index. Cost is $35 per person, with lunch and awards after golf included. There will be closest-to-the hole contests and four $5 skins games.

After Lunch Bunch

Frost was the story of the day on the Canyon Lake Golf Course last Friday, January 2. The fairways were white and it was 10:15 a.m. before players were allowed to tee off on what was a clear and cold morning. Results of the After Lunch Bunch’s Partners Best Ball game were as follows:

A Flight – 1 st: Bobby Gunter and Walt Popper, 55; 2nd: Hank Dunbar and Ken Mathes, 56.

B Flight – 1st: Randy Bonner and Oscar Rowland, 60; 2nd: Ed Doidge and Jim Musser, 61

Winners of the skins competition were Hank Dunbar on holes 1 and 12, Bill Hallahan on 2, Carlos Ramirez on 5, and Bobby Gunter on 6 and 18.

The weekly game is open to all Canyon Lakers with an established handicap. Signups take place between 8:30 and 9:15 a.m. on Friday mornings in the Magnolia Room, or by phone at 249-4565 or 237-6102. The entry fee is $5; there is an optional skins game for an additional $5. The format for next week’s game is Two Best Balls of the Foursome, with the committee picking the foursomes.

9ers Golf Club

The 9ers Golf Club wishes the community a happy New Year and invites ladies to start off the year right by joining this fun group on the Golf Course. The 9ers Golf Club is a member of the Women’s Southern California Golf Association. The group tees off on Thursdays for nine holes of golf at 8:30 or 9 a.m. depending on the date of play.

Any level golfer is welcome, including those who’ve only had a few lessons. Bring a friend or meet new friends. Be in the Magnolia Room 45 minutes before tee time. For specific start times or more information, call Linda Kielty at 951-746-2250 or Diana Castillo at 951-970-8931.

Family Golf Club

The Family Golf Club is a member of the Southern California Golf Association (SCGA). It holds open meetings the third Wednesday of each month at 6:30 p.m. in the Magnolia Room at the Country Club.  Members play Wednesday afternoons. Applications for the Family Golf Club are available at clfamilygolf.com or contact Mary Leathley at 951-244-0114.
