Despite the rain and chilly temperatures on January 21, close to 300 participants came out to run and walk in the 2nd annual Fit Community 5K/10K races and 1K kids fun run, according to event spokesperson Ronale Rhodes.
The top three overall men's winners in the 5K race were Raymond McKendry (1st), Dwight Wilson (2nd) and Sukru Gilma (3rd). The top three overall women's winners in the 5K were Kelsey Creese (1st), Jully Martilla (2nd) and Sherri Smith (3rd).
The top three overall men's winners in the 10K race were Ryan McKendry (1st), Andy Thacher (2nd) and Shawn Hall (3rd). The top three overall women's winners in the 10K were Brenda Corona (1st), Alissa Rackstraw (2nd) and Kelly Williams (3rd).
In addition to these races and the kids fun run, participants were entertained by Mike Shroyer of Good Time Entertainment and the Storm mascot, Thunder. POA President Paul Chenette sang the National Anthem prior to the beginning of the race.
Fitness and Triathlon Club President Stephen Bustos offers “a thousand thanks” to sponsors, vendors, volunteers and athletes for making the club's 2nd annual “Fit Community” such a big success, especially given the not-so-sunny weather.
"Special thanks, of course, to the POA and, in particular, the Operations Department, for their hard work leading up to and the day of the event," says Stephen. "Those of us on the Fitness Committee of the Canyon Lake Triathlon Club are already looking forward to our 3rd annual event next January!"
