A plain black well-pump in a small Southern town in Alabama still stands to remind visitors where one of the world’s greatest miracles took place. This weekend, Canyon Lake Community Theatre will re-create the events that occurred at that pump where Annie Sullivan, a loyal and faithful teacher, unleashed the world for Helen Keller, the 19-month-old child who was left blind and deaf following a devastating illness.

The water from that pump flooded through her fingers and marked the beginning of Helen’s journey to open the eyes of the world though her inspiring story.

“The Miracle Worker,” a three-act play by William Gibson, is scheduled to run in the Holiday Bay Room at the Lodge Friday, January 27, at 7:30 p.m.; Saturday, January 28, at 1 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.; and Sunday, January 29, at 1 p.m. Tickets can be purchased at POA Member Services or by calling 746-4619. Prices are $15 for VIP seating, $12 for General seating and $10 for Seniors/Students.

"This CLCT production invites everyone to ponder this thought, voiced by Helen Keller in 1928: 'If I, deaf, blind, find life rich and interesting, how much more can you gain by the use of your five senses!' Bring your family and join us in recognizing the best in ourselves, in counting our blessings and achieving what others perceive as impossible," says CLCT spokesperson Barbara Egbert.

Cast members include Krista McClean and Cassidy Potter as Helen, Chloe Howard and Jennifer Ward as Annie Sullivan, Tom Rolapp as Mr. Keller, Stephanie Vecchione as Kate, Sue Collins as Aunt Ev, Nick Rice as James, Meagan Newlin as Martha, Jamal Gaylor as Percy, Chris Linhard as Anagnos, Steve Morrison as Dr. Crone’s voice, Kenya Gaylor as Viney, Robin Gruwell as Servant, Alex Landau as Boy’s Voice/Man’s Voice, and Francis Whittle as Man’s voice/Crone’s voice.
