Canyon Lake has discovered a cool new way to be green. The City recently replaced an aging heating, ventilation and air conditioning system at City Hall and upgraded thermostats and lighting in City Hall and Fire Station 60 with energy efficient systems. The $44,000 project, completed by AVRAM Electric of Corona, was paid for by an American Recovery Reinvestment Act grant.

“The City certainly realizes the importance of being more energy efficient and environmentally friendly,” says Barry Talbot, chair of the City Finance Committee. “To be able to do that without any fiscal impact to the City is just icing on the cake.”

Following an energy audit in June 2011 funded by Southern California Edison, it was recommended that lighting and HVAC equipment in City Hall and the Fire Station needed to be updated to become more energy efficient. Six aging HVAV units were replaced with energy efficient equipment, florescent lighting was upgraded, programmable thermostats added, and high technology sensors that monitor lighting and energy use were installed.
